David & Katie

David and Katie wanted to create engagement photos while she was visiting him in Alaska where he is stationed with the Army.  We lucked out with perfect fall weather at Flat Top – a big change of scenery from New York where Katie currently lives.  They are planning their wedding elsewhere this summer, so unfortunately I won’t get to photograph that but I’m glad I got to meet them both because they were such fun souls and total naturals in front of the camera.  Luckily for me, Katie recently came back for another visit and I got to photograph them again in the Alaskan winter.  Watch for that session on the blog in the coming weeks!

The Grindrod Family

I’ve photographed the Grindrod family for the past several years, creating images for their holiday cards.  This year they decided to come up to the valley from Anchorage for a change of scenery and lucked out with perfect fall weather.  The Experimental Farm provided several fun areas for their son and daughter to explore and a variety of backgrounds for their portraits.  I love watching their kiddos grow with each passing year and can’t wait to see how they’ve changed the next time they are in front of my lens.

DJ & Alex – October 1, 2016

After I created family portraits for them over the summer, DJ and Alex asked me to photograph their fall wedding.  Little did I know it was going to be one of the most beautiful DIY weddings I had captured yet.  With the help of friends and family they transformed their yard into a beautiful rustic setting for their ceremony. And they stayed true to their Alaskan roots with attire including Carhartt vests for the guys and Xtra Tuff boots for the whole wedding party.  There were several memorable moments during their nuptials, including when they realized the rings hadn’t made it out to the altar and the bride’s mother sprinted back inside for them as the guests chuckled.  They said their vows as the bonfire prepared for the reception crackled nearby and the family dogs wandered between the wedding party and the guests looking for a scratch on the ears.  It was casual.  It was heartfelt. It was fun.  And it was perfect.  After the ceremony I stole the bride and groom away to use a nearby field for their portraits in the fall colors while their family set out their fall desserts and started grilling on the fire.  It was a fitting end to a lovely homespun wedding, which I’m sure their entire family will remember fondly for years to come.
