An amazing landscape of frost recently developed near the Knik river and I was itching to get someone out into this winter wonderland for portraits. The Finleys, who I’ve worked with several times now had also noticed the frost and were willing to brave the cold to make use of this fantastic background. We tested out a spot along the hay flats just off the highway and then moved to a trail that led to the railroad tracks near Pioneer Peak based on a request from their oldest daughter Kylie. I’m so glad we did because I’m in LOVE with this location! With mountains, the river, a grassy area, the bridge and the tracks it’s got LOTS to offer. To be safe, we only spent a few minutes on the tracks and made sure we were ready to move quickly if we did see a train. I’ve been back to this location with another family since then and even without the frost it was still great. I can’t wait to see what it’s going to look like for summer and fall sessions next year!
