When an impending deployment was moved up by several weeks, getting family pictures done moved up a few spots on the “getting ready” priority list. Luckily, I had availability that weekend and the weather cooperated perfectly. A layer of fresh snow was a treat for this family’s four-year old little boy and a beagle puppy, who explored the river bank and the bridge across while we created some adorable portraits.
This family’s love for each other was obvious. Even as they answered the 100 questions their little adventurer had about everything we saw, they smiled. And in return he snuggled. And smooched. And grinned right back. Watching them, I was sure that although they would soon be apart for duty’s sake, they were ready to face the challenge knowing that their family was strong and united.
As a retired military wife I know full well how difficult saying goodbye – and the uncertainty that comes with it – can be and am honored that they chose me to capture these memories. I hope these images ease the separation and remind them of the fun they will have when they are together again.
